Dani has released on steam, the updated version for Mac and Linux builds. For me, I completely deleted Crab Game in Steam, and redownloaded it through Steam and simply pressed play, it worked with no server issues or version issues. If this is true for everyone, the download links above should be rendered obsolete along with my guide because there is no need to implement CrabGame in the steam folders anymore.
My Steam keeps verifying my files before lauching the game i.e. Steam replaces my replaced CrabGame file to the older version (the one you would initially download from Steam). Even if I uninstall, reinstall, then replace to prevent Steam from auto-verifying files it still pops up saying missing execute. I can run 1.3323 and 1.22 on their own (without any server showing up obviously). Pls help :(
Btw, Dani i've seen the "biography" of the game and if you need Linux or Mac, you can just dualboot Linux in your computer and install MacOS (hackintosh), even Linus Tech Tips did a video about it! And you'll have 3 systems at the same time! If you don't have enough drive, a 2TB SSD drive wouldn't be that expensive.
@Dani I will post this again, so it will be seen and hopefully fixed. Dani, please fix red-light, green-light map for mac. I get black pixels/shaders whenever I play this exact map. Basically I cant really see anything, just the grass 3 feet around me. Especially in Desert map and Hill map of red light, green light. Screenshot provided below:
However I'm stuck at step 3-4 of the decompression with The Unarchiver since after decompression I get only "64Bit" and not Mac_64bit and I'm therefore stuck, anyone have an idea of how I could fix this problem
i think it should be the same thing, note that was for past versions of crab game so dani might have changed the file names, however it should work exactly the same
ALL MAC USERS: Follow this tutorial and use Mac 64bit no matter what. I had zero success with the Mac Silicon version on my M1 MacBook Air, however using the 64bit version everything worked fine.
I made a fully-fledged YouTube tutorial for installing this game for M1 Chip and Intel Chip Macs.
Why the app doesn't launch?
The reason the app does not launch is because the executable inside the .app file does not have execution permissions.
The second reason is because the .app is made by an untrusted developer.
In this video there is all of the steps in this comment section combined. I also run this on latest macOS and M1 Mac mini so you don't have to worry about compatibility issues, also because it's running through rosetta so it works for intel too.
To fix this, use the command Dani gave: "xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine [app path]". App path is the full name of wherever you installed the game (for it, it was "/Users/MY_USERNAME/Downloads/64Bit.app"). So the full command was "xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Users/MY_USERNAME/Downloads/64Bit.app".
Open Terminal in the download folder and type the above command, OR select the game file in Finder, go to Finder > Services > New Terminal at Folder, then type "cd ..; xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine 64Bit.app". After doing this, I was able to open the game like in Step 8 in https://itch.io/post/4880634 (at this step, it opens but shows no servers). Then I followed Steps 9-11 and opened from Steam - servers now show and I can play.
@Dani please fix red-light, green-light map for mac. I get black pixels/shaders when I play this exact map. Basically I cant really see anything, just the grass 3 feet around me. Especially in Desert map.
Did you replace Steam version? You need to install old CrabGames from Steam. Then replace it with your new version file (rename it “CrabGames”). File is in ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/common/steamapps/CrabGame.
Also make sure you run with Steam and keep it on in background.
I'm on Mac, and downloading the 64bit version, there's no option to open with The Unarchiver. I have it downloaded and open, but there is no open with option. I tried dragging the 64bit file into The Unarchiver but it says that the contents cannot be extracted with the unarchiver
I tried downloading the silicon version but the same thing happened
To fix this, I used the command Dani gave: "xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine [app path]". App path is the full name of wherever you installed the game (for it, it was "/Users/MY_USERNAME/Downloads/64Bit.app"). Are you on Mac? You need to make the name of the app "CrabGame", copy it, then go to the Steam library folder (Finder toolbar > Go > Go to Folder > "~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Crab Game" ), and paste it (replace old one). Then you need to run "Play" from Steam.
You need to have steam downloaded, running in the background, and the latest version of crab game installed on steam, play it once using Proton (google it) and then follow these instructions:
click this link to download steam api and extract the files into "CrabGame_Data/Plugins"
Next you need to go where the Actual thing you click on to play it is located (executable) and save a .txt file (text document) called steam_appid.txt with this number in it:
1782210
Now you need to attempt to run the game, if it fails, follow these instructions to allow the game to run on your mac.
Let me know if this works. I'm doing a youtube tutorial for the linux version check out my channel here.

Download through chrome.
i think it should be the same thing, note that was for past versions of crab game so dani might have changed the file names, however it should work exactly the same
File got changed to 64Bit unstead of Mac_64bit. Just change the name in the commands.

The game works entirely, servers ARE findable and joinable. Just follow this tutorial accordingly.
Linux Users:
Proton version works better than native (for me at least)
Proton-6.3-7 works best.
what does this even mean
for me it doesnt lunch at all on proton

If someone has problems on Mac:
chmod +x 64bit.app/Contents/MacOS/Crab\ Game
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine 64bit.app
And if it insane laggs while starting up, try to go into the options (with patience) -> Videos -> Activate VSync and set a FPS limit
what does this even mean
where is it for system 32
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2na63nT32sa
version is outdated from itchio launcher, i get 1.3315 instead of 1.3323 on linux
Crab game on steam runs on Ubuntu/PopOS currently already if you use Wine and steamplay I believe. Runs fine with over 400+ fps on max settings lol
What's the proton version you use?
I tried to run it by proton experimental but it's working on 1 fps!🙃
Early response lol… Proton-6.3-7 works fine for me, 500+ fps max settings.
I tried 6.3 but the same problem happens :(
And I tried running the game just with wine and no problem happens but servers not working and I can't join/create any lobby
That’s strange.. Works fine over here with a GTX 1660ti with NVIDIA proprietary drivers.
Reposting tutorial steps for Mac

64 bit MacOS doesn't work, even after using the command.

If Mac:
From this tutorial: https://itch.io/post/4880634

Linux version is sadly outdated, so no servers show up right now :(
Why are no lobbies showing up? I did all the steps required
This is Steps 9-11 in this install guide: https://itch.io/post/4880634
Also make sure it's 64Bit version. Some people having issues with Silicon even after installing.
the 64 bit version doesnt work for me cause it crashes after the unity screen
What's your macOS name and version? Apple Icon > About this Mac
im running monterey 12.0.1
does it work on mac big sur
If you're on Linux, it might be because the download is not the latest version. Servers will only show up with latest version (1.3323).
Is this only available on mac versions 10.3 and later? im on 2017 macbook and im unable to play
You need to have steam downloaded, running in the background, and the latest version of crab game installed on steam, play it once using Proton (google it) and then follow these instructions:
click this link to download steam api and extract the files into "CrabGame_Data/Plugins"
https://github.com/rlabrecque/Steamworks.NET/releases/download/15.0.1/Steamworks...
Seems like proton is not supported by mac. Can you explain more about that part because it is super confusing.
Those instructions are for Linux. Follow this guys guide for Mac:
https://itch.io/post/4880634
You need Steam running for Voice to work. See steps in link. If its super laggy for you, make resolution smaller in game graphics settings.
Works for me on 10.15 (catalina). Not sure if older versions work. YMMV.
yea thank you for helping him I didn't know Proton didn't work for mac so I shouldn't have said anything.
No problem! Your instructions are super helpful for Linux. I hope the version gets updated.
update the linux version pls (i won't be using windows linux is my daily driver and it wouldn't change)
maybe try wine?
use proton
its because its an older version. Dani messed up and uploaded the older version.we need to wait for an update that is if you are on linux
