This game is literally the best! I've experienced a few bugs as a Mac Silicon player which are: Input lag in the ui, can't see any servers. I hope they will get fixed. We're thanking you for making this masterpiece!
you probably don't have steam running in the backround thus having a older version of the game, the game is in version 1.3 rn so you must wait for the dev to update the mac file
Yes I had this problem. The reason being is dani isn't an identified developer, so apple blocks him. You need to go into terminal to solve this. Here's what I used to open it:
does anyone know if it works on past versions of mac (catalina to be precise, the only reason why I have catalina is because I don't have space for higher versions) When I donwload mac 64bit it just says this application cannot be open.

install crab game in steam (yeah its windows but still do it) then launch windows version, exit and launch the one you installed from itch, steam will recognize it as the crab game you installed on steam
I have a solution for Mac, that i found in comments
You need to download Mac version from here, and windows version from Steam, after that Steam will recognize Mac version as Windows, and everything will be OK. BUT! You can't play on servers, because Dani haven't uploaded version 1.29 here.

MAC users Instructions.
1. Download MAC64bit (even if you are SILICON). Do not unzip file.
2. Download steam crab game (reinstall if already installed).
3. Launch steam Crab game first and then quit.
DO NOT CLOSE STEAM
4. UNzip Mac crab game file.
5. Open a terminal
6. Write this in terminal: sudo chmod -R 755 (drag icon of the game to terminal, it should paste directory to it) press enter.
should look something like this :
sudo chmod -R 755 /Users/user/Desktop/Mac_64bits.app
7. Launch the Mac crab game and ENJOY
PS. There is a new version 1.3 which mac files do not support right now. Wait for Dani to update here.
followed all your steps and is still not working for me, says The application "Mac_64bits" can't be opened.
make sure u do step 6 correctly, it only gives that error bcs Dani isn't an authorised developer

Actually now when I do all the steps, it says file is damaged and can't be opened, you should move it to the trash.

It works on linux. I just extracted the files on steam game folder and executed the ./CrabGame.x86 and it worked!! Thank you for your support!

I use the steam version on Linux with proton and it does work perfectly with a different currency than my local one but that is fine.

Click on the apple symbol on the top right of ur screen, and click “About This Mac”, There u can see whether you have an intel or silicon processor.
Did you buy the M1 mac? M1 = silicon Any other one = 64bit
you need to type the file path of where your game .exe is located.
