im on mac silicon. i downloaded crab game on steam, but i cant join or create lobbies. i tried replacing the CrabGame file with the mac silicon one, yes the names of the files were both CrabGame. i also tried running this command in the ternimal "
so i tried to execute the command Dani provided (xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine [app path]) however, when executing it, this pops up: "xattr: No such file: 64bit.app" (this is the name the file had when i decompressed the zip file that you can download) can somone help me with this please?
When you type command in terminal, what folder are you in? (everything before $ when you type). It says this because it cant see the file in the current folder. You need right path. Or you’re accidentally INSIDE the app (which is basically just a ZIP) instead of its parent folder.
if someone need help join our discord its also for lobby codes cause there arent much players in normal public server mostly link - https://discord.gg/CpebmJrp
go to system preferences, security and privacy (general), and at the bottom there should be a small button that says open anyways or something like that
it doesnt if you dont port it into steam. Basically just go to steam and manage local files from there browse and delete the old crab game then rename the mac version to CrabGame and put it there. Then launch it and voice chat will work
Click the file so its name is highlighted. In top toolbar, click Finder > Services > New Terminal At Folder. Terminal window will show up. Type these commands:
cd ..
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine Mac_64Bit.app
Then reopen the app. Follow steps to replace CrabGame in Steam library with new one to play.
I downloaded it and it opens for me, i use a silicon mac but decided on the 64 bit version as most people recomended it to be better, i have a question, does anyone else get horrible delay in the game, when i hover over the button it takes like 3-4 seconds for the game to actually press on it, does anyone know how to fix this issue? thanks in advance.
yeah the same thing was happening to me, just go into the ingame setting and go to the video tab, put the resolution pretty low, and it should work, it worked for me ( i downloaded the 64but version even though im on silicon) also i still cant join any games.
For linux players getting the error where the game crashes after the Unity screen when running the Windows version through proton: forcing it to run on proton v.6.3-7 fixed that for me
Whenever I open the game it is extremely laggy that it's practically unplayable. I tried redownloading it but it's still laggy and whenever I try to join a server, nothing pops up. Does anyone else have this problem?
(I have no idea if this can be applied to everyone, as I am on Catalina, but hopefully this helps) (This will be centered around my version)
1. Download The Unarchiver on the App Store on their site (you can probably figure out how to install it, there's lots of tutorials)
2. Download the appropriate file according to your system (64bit or silicon)
3. Get the zip file, drag it to your desktop, then right click it and choose open with The Unarchiver, the default doesn't work for all I know and results in an unopenable Crab Game
4. Let it run for a few seconds and you should end up with Mac_64Bit
5. Go to steam, install Crab Game there, run it once, then close it (I know it states that its only for windows, but it runs on mac, this step is crucial)
6. (credit to ssasiY) Go to finder, press cmd+shift+g, and a window should pop up, insert /Users/*yourusernamegoeshere*/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common
7. Now find the file with the name Crab Game, double click it, and there should be CrabGame and SavesDir
8. leave the window there, now right click on the Mac_64Bit you got from the zip file and press Open, DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK IT, it should pop up something along the lines of "Mac_64Bit is not from an identified developer" , press open anyway, and it should open
9. Close the game, rename the Mac_64Bit to CrabGame, and go back to the window with the two files
10. Replace the renamed CrabGame with the one in the folder
11. Close the Finder window, and open up Steam again, and press Play, it should work with no error messages, crashing, or no servers
This is a quickly made tutorial and it isn't applicable to everybody.
I hope I made myself clear and optimistically, I hope it helped you
If there's any problem leave comments below and I'll try to help, but I am seriously no expert, so don't expect much.
Awesome, thanks!! Works for me on Catalina 10.15.7. Except at Step 8, it didn't give me "Mac_64Bit is not from an identified developer" error. Instead, it said the app was damaged and to Move to Trash.
To fix this, I used the command Dani gave: "xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine [app path]". App path is the full name of wherever you installed the game (for it, it was "/Users/MY_USERNAME/Downloads/Mac_64Bit.app"). So the full command was "xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Users/MY_USERNAME/Downloads/Mac_64Bit.app".
Open Terminal in the download folder and type the above command, OR select the game file in Finder, go to Finder > Services > New Terminal at Folder, then type "cd ..; xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine Mac_64Bit.app".
After doing this, I was able to open the game like in Step 8 (at this step, it opens but shows no servers). Then I followed Steps 9-11 and opened from Steam - servers now show and I can play.
Hey, i have a question, for step 6 which username do you add? your steam username or your computer user username? also do you need spaces if its computer user? i tried this step with both but only my home file came up
Hi Samuelistic! On step 3 when I right-click intel64, it doesn't give me the option to "open with..." it just says open, and when I open it it says "The application "Intel64" can't be opened". pls help :'(
hey! This should work if you have The Unarchiver installed, I'm guessing you used the original Archive Utility and that results in the can't be opened message, there's a link to download The Unarchiver somewhere above, it's completely safe and open the zip file with that. It should solve your problem.
hmm you should be able to find it in the /Users/*yourusernamegoeshere*/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common path, if you don't have Crab Game there maybe you haven't downloaded it on steam yet?
For Step 11 Steam keeps verifying my files before lauching the game i.e. Steam replaces my replaced CrabGame file to the older version (the one you would initially download from Steam). Even if I uninstall, reinstall, then replace to prevent Steam from auto-verifying files it still pops up saying missing execute. I can run 1.3323 and 1.22 on their own (without any server showing up obviously). Pls help :(
yeah I've just realized that problem today, I tried it out for myself, and I am facing the same problem. I'm not sure what to do either, but I'll try to experiment a little bit, and if I get it working I'll update the guide. Sorry
this was 9 days ago lmao, if you looked at the post I put above i said this guide is obsolete now as the developer has released official mac and linux builds on steam
And then you replace the Crabgame app (which is in the Crabgame folder) with the one downloaded here (Make sure to rename the 'Mac_64bit' app to 'Crabgame' )
please fix this dani. It doesn't work. For most of us if we use the command you put in the description to help us, you will be able to load the game up but you can't join or create servers.
open terminal copy and paste this xattr -cr with a space at the end and then open finder and drag your squid game application into the terminal and hit enter should do the trick. However, you're still not gonna see any servers cause the games broke.

im on mac silicon. i downloaded crab game on steam, but i cant join or create lobbies. i tried replacing the CrabGame file with the mac silicon one, yes the names of the files were both CrabGame. i also tried running this command in the ternimal "
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Volumes/\(500GB\)/Games/steamapps/common/steamapps/common/Crab\ Game/CrabGame.app
"
i did that for both the offical mac silicon version and the version from steam. the version offical mac silicon version didn’t launch.
I dont have Silicon but lots of people with it are saying 64Bit one here works better. Try that one instead.
Steam version is outdated and will launch but not show any servers.
so i tried to execute the command Dani provided (xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine [app path]) however, when executing it, this pops up: "xattr: No such file: 64bit.app" (this is the name the file had when i decompressed the zip file that you can download) can somone help me with this please?
rename the file to something easier to type
When you type command in terminal, what folder are you in? (everything before $ when you type). It says this because it cant see the file in the current folder. You need right path. Or you’re accidentally INSIDE the app (which is basically just a ZIP) instead of its parent folder.
Yo why 64bit is marked as silicon like im clicking 64 and its marking it as silicon
Linux version works well after following the instructions posted below however version number is 1.3315.
Linux fix to get lobbies working:
appid is 1782210 (put this text into steam_appid.txt in the root dir alongside the game executable)

https://github.com/rlabrecque/Steamworks.NET/releases/download/15.0.1/Steamworks...
(this goes to 'CrabGameLinux_Data/Plugins/')
I can't join or create lobbys in the mac 64bit version. What do I do?

go to system preferences, security and privacy (general), and at the bottom there should be a small button that says open anyways or something like that
why does it crash on mac
I downloaded to linux and everything is working but i cant find a match it is just loading.
Crab Game on Linux - cannot list lobbies and cannot connect to lobbies
Root cause is twofold:
missing 'CrabGameLinux_Data/Plugins/libsteam_api.so'
missing 'steam_appid.txt'
Solution:
appid is 1782210 (put this text into steam_appid.txt in the root dir alongside the game executable)
grab libsteam_api.so from
https://github.com/rlabrecque/Steamworks.NET/releases/download/15.0.1/Steamworks...
(this goes to 'CrabGameLinux_Data/Plugins/')
original comment --->Frantisek Veverka
how do i do that
Hi, what are you using instead of facepunch now?

What am I supposed to do with that?
Click the file so its name is highlighted. In top toolbar, click Finder > Services > New Terminal At Folder. Terminal window will show up. Type these commands:
cd ..
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine Mac_64Bit.app

on linux is better to just use proton, works flawlessly
Voice chat Doesn't work :((

I have tried the silicon version to, i have the same issue there as well
try lowering the resolution and shadow settings maybe.
Yeah can confirm lowering the resolution makes it faster for me.
Enabling V-Sync worked for me
yeah the same thing was happening to me, just go into the ingame setting and go to the video tab, put the resolution pretty low, and it should work, it worked for me ( i downloaded the 64but version even though im on silicon) also i still cant join any games.

Awesome, thanks!! Works for me on Catalina 10.15.7. Except at Step 8, it didn't give me "Mac_64Bit is not from an identified developer" error. Instead, it said the app was damaged and to Move to Trash.

For those curious:
Voice Chat DOES WORK on Mac 1.326 for me. It DID NOT work on 1.29.
this works!!!
thanks dude very cool
both versions doesn't work for me :(
Thanks for adding to the tutorial
didnt work. It just crashes and after a while a yellow triangle shows up saying it crashed unexpectedly.
no idea why that happens for some people, hope you find the solution
do you mean the intell64 as the mac 64 bit?
yes, I guess he changed the file name in the 1.33 update, it works exactly the same though
ur great bud
np glad to help!
Hey, i have a question, for step 6 which username do you add? your steam username or your computer user username? also do you need spaces if its computer user? i tried this step with both but only my home file came up
NVM THIS WORKS THANK YOU SOO SOO MUCH
Hey I am having this same issue. Can you please let me know how you fixed it?
It’s your computer username. You can also do ~/Library, ~ is your home directory
So "/Users/~/Library~/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common" ?
No, it would be ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common
~/ is your home directory not your username.
thank you so much dude
Also works for Monterey 12.0.1 if you use the command Dani gave
Hi Samuelistic! On step 3 when I right-click intel64, it doesn't give me the option to "open with..." it just says open, and when I open it it says "The application "Intel64" can't be opened". pls help :'(

Ok will try this, Thanks!
Do you know how to install on High Sierra?
it should work about the same, give it a try, but high sierra is seriously outdated so I'm not sure if it works
Does anyone else have a huge input delay when playing on Mac M1??!
Change the video settings to match your computer, that fixed my lagged input.
For step 6 when i try to search the file i don’t see CrabGame in it, how do I fix this

this was 9 days ago lmao, if you looked at the post I put above i said this guide is obsolete now as the developer has released official mac and linux builds on steam
i guess we will never play crab game ;(
what do i have to type in [app path]
drag an icon of your game to terminal
Why the hell do you post the apple silicon version if it doesn't work?
any solutions for the mac server issue ????
Yeah I found one.
Basically you install Crab Game also on Steam. Then you go in finder, and in the 'Go to' option on the top of the display' and insert the path:
/Users/*yourusernamegoeshere*/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common
And then you replace the Crabgame app (which is in the Crabgame folder) with the one downloaded here (Make sure to rename the 'Mac_64bit' app to 'Crabgame' )
Then you open steam and run Crab game.
that still doesn't work for me, it gives the "crab game quit unexpectedly" message
I still dont see servers, im using the silicon version
The silicon version doesn't work. You need to install the 64 bit one (It worked for me on M1)
Damn, ok I'll try the Rosseta version than, was hoping for Native performance.
Are you guys able to join a game though?
same
Thank you so much! This worked perfectly for me on my M1 Macbook Air!
worked for me completely thanks a lot
Same it works now! I still wish silicon worked but Unity messed up somewhere while translating it.
THANK YOU SO MUCH <3
Nice! Great solution , i can see and join servers now! The bad thing, is that i have 4 fps on the lowest settings
try changing the resolution. worked for me!
It still says 1.22 for some reason, tried both 64 bit and apple silicon versions
please fix this dani. It doesn't work. For most of us if we use the command you put in the description to help us, you will be able to load the game up but you can't join or create servers.
Dani I cant join lobbies and create games in 1.326 mac :(
i cant join the server
Ayy, He updates it but how do I see servers
Mid 2011 iMac running macOS High Sierra 10.13.6
Mac forces me to trash the game, says it's damaged and can't be opened.
Outdated on my end or error with the game?
edit: i think it just doesn't work on this mac, because i tried the command provided, it let me open but it immediately crashes
Yeah mine is saying the same thing on 10.15.7 Catalina
open terminal copy and paste this xattr -cr with a space at the end and then open finder and drag your squid game application into the terminal and hit enter should do the trick. However, you're still not gonna see any servers cause the games broke.
has anyone using Mac can play this game? if yes pls tell me howwww
